Directorate Agriculture Research Institute (ARIS) Tandojam Sindh, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) and Sindh Agriculture University (SAU) Tandojam organized stakeholders consultation workshop for priority setting opportunities, needs and potential for the project Agriculture Innovation Program Phase-II at Directorate General Agriculture Research Sindh, Tandojam.

The workshop brought together scientists, researchers, progressive farmers, academicians, practitioners, producers, and experts to explore research priority areas for the development of Agriculture and Livestock Sectors in Sindh, Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Memon, Vice Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, highlighted the importance of the agriculture research interventions to increase agriculture productivity and prosperity of the nation. He urged the scientists that problem oriented research should be focused to cope with the challenges of the climate change and food security of the country. He added that 64% of the population under 30 years age are the main human resources and we should also utilize our youth energy in agriculture sector and he further added that there is a need to develop collaboration between public and private sector organizations for promoting and disseminating the modern technology among the farmers.

While speaking on the occasion Dr Yusuf Zafar, Chairman, PARC Islamabad, highlighted that Sindh blessed with favourable climate and there is a need to get maximum benefit of the climate for the development of fruits, vegetables and medicinal crops.

Noor Muhammad Baloch, Director General, Agriculture Research Institute, Tandojam, Sindh said that due to climate change the research is facing a lot of issues and there is a need to give priority for agriculture research for the economic development of the country.

Nabi Bux Sathio, Senior Vice President Sindh Chamber of Agriculture and Progressive farmer of Sindh said that Sindh farmers are facing many issues in especially water, certified seed and marketing of agriculture products and new holistic market is the need of the day.
